GCO to Relocate to Msheireb Downtown Doha

Msheireb Properties announced the upcoming relocation of the Government Communications Office (GCO) to its new headquarters in Msheireb Downtown Doha.

The move enhances the city’s position as Qatar’s leading media and content creation hub. It follows Media City Qatar’s recent announcement to move to Msheireb Downtown Doha, which further solidifies the city’s standing as a premier destination that connects innovators with advanced technological infrastructure.

The GCO serves as Qatar’s strategic communication arm, playing a key role in strengthening the nation’s communication efforts. Its primary responsibilities include providing communication support to government and semi-government entities, helping them deliver clear and consistent messages to the public, which in turn highlights the country’s achievements across various sectors.

Commenting on the occasion, Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al Thani, Director of the Government Communications Office, said: “Msheireb Downtown offers a prime location in the heart of the capital, boasting cutting-edge digital infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities. Relocating will enhance the GCO’s creative output, improve coordination across government entities and further enrich Qatar’s media landscape.”

Eng Ali Mohammed Al Kuwari, CEO of Msheireb Properties, added: “We are proud to welcome the Government Communications Office to Msheireb Downtown Doha, in light of its strategic prominence as an incubator for excellence and creativity. This relocation aligns with our vision of establishing a world-class media hub, creating a dynamic environment where media professionals, technologists and creative industry experts can thrive. Having successfully hosted media centres for two of the world’s largest sporting events—the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023—we look forward to welcoming more institutions that leverage the benefit of operating from Doha’s premier media hub.”

The new headquarters houses a state-of-the-art studio, which ranks among the best in the region. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the facility is designed to empower government entities to create compelling content and enhance public communication. The studio will support the GCO’s mission by offering spaces equipped with the latest technology for podcast recording, film production, press conferences, photography and workshops.

As part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the GCO and TikTok at Web Summit Qatar earlier this year, the new headquarters will host an office for the global digital platform, featuring its first creative studio in the region. The new headquarters will also host an office for Snap Inc. to strengthen their regional presence, as part of an MoU signed with the GCO.

The GCO’s move to Msheireb Downtown Doha marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey to become a hub for communication, media and technology specialists. It aims to strengthen Qatar’s government communication system to be more integrated and interactive, leveraging the city’s eco-friendly design and energy efficiency, while also reflecting the GCO’s commitment to environmental sustainability, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
