HE the Prime Minister inaugurates Kanaf Parenting Center
The centre contributes to enhancing family quality of life and strengthening the social empowerment system
HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the Kanaf Parenting Center, underscoring Qatar’s commitment to strengthening the family as the foundation of a cohesive society.
HE the Prime Minister expressed his pleasure at inaugurating the Kanaf Parenting Center, affirming that the family is the first institution of the nation and that what is built within it today will be reflected in generations to come. He added that the Center is expected to serve as a guiding light for Qatari families seeking support and direction in their parenting journey.
The launch of the centre comes as one of the flagship projects of the Ministry of Social Development and Family and falls under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation for Social Work. It aligns with the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy and aims to enhance the quality of family life and strengthen social empowerment in the country.
In her remarks during the inauguration ceremony, HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family, affirmed that the inauguration of the Kanaf Parenting Center represents an important national milestone in the development of the family support system. It reflects the state’s vision of placing the family at the heart of its priorities, grounded in the belief that the family is the first line of protection for society and that parenting is a national responsibility requiring continuous awareness, knowledge and preparation.
Her Excellency noted that the centre is an extension of the “Family First” initiative within the Ministry’s strategy and one of the outcomes of the Third National Development Strategy. It aims to build a cohesive society capable of addressing challenges while preserving its identity and values amid rapid change.
She explained that the name “Kanaf” reflects the values of care, support and closeness, embodying the centre’s mission to empower parents and equip them with the skills and tools necessary for effective parenting, through training programs and specialised guidance.
Her Excellency highlighted that the centre is distinguished by its programs, which cover all stages of upbringing, from pre-parenthood to pregnancy, early childhood and adolescence. It also underscores the vital role of grandparents in strengthening family cohesion and passing on values across generations, through an integrated, evidence-based approach aligned with international best practices.
She stressed that investing in the family is an investment in the nation’s future, adding that the centre will serve as a platform for family awareness and a national hub supporting the development of informed and cohesive generations capable of contributing to national development.
The Kanaf Parenting Center represents a valuable addition to the ecosystem of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, operating within an integrated framework alongside affiliated centres to unify national efforts in supporting families and to develop a comprehensive, knowledge-based and preventive parenting model.
