His Highness The Amir visits France
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, headed a Qatari delegation on an official visit to France on 5 July 2018.
HH The Amir first visited the Mont-de-Marsan Air Base, where he met with French Defence Minister Florence Parly. They discussed military and defence cooperation between Qatar and France, as well as the latest regional and international developments.
HH The Amir then arrived in Paris, where he hosted a dinner for several French senators, senior officials and businessmen.
Later, HH The Amir was accorded an official reception at Hôtel des Invalides in Paris, where he was greeted by the Minister of Economy and Finance of the French Republic, Bruno Le Maire.
On 6 July, HH The Amir met with President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, at the Élysée Palace. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations between Qatar and France, as well as ways to enhance them in the areas of economy, trade, joint military, and security and defence cooperation, as well as cultural and scientific exchange, agriculture and environment.
They also discussed collaboration through sports activities in both countries, particularly around the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Finally, they talked about regional and international issues including the Gulf crisis, the humanitarian challenges and the security situation in Palestine, Syria, Libya and Yemen.
During a joint press conference, HH The Amir underscored the importance of strong relations between Qatar and France, and expressed his pride in the relationship between the two countries.
During his visit, HH The Amir also met with the Prime Minister of the French Republic, Édouard Philippe, at Matignon Palace, with whom he discussed ways to support and further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
