His Highness The Amir visits the UK
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, headed a Qatari delegation on an official visit to the United Kingdom on 22 July 2018. The visit aimed to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.
HH The Amir first visited the City of London where he met with the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Charles Bowman and the Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion, Rona Fairhead, as well as senior business figures.
HH The Amir then met with UK government officials to discuss security and defence cooperation. He attended meetings with the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Sajid Javid, and the Secretary of State for Defence, Gavin Williamson.
On 24 July, HH The Amir met with Prime Minister Theresa May at 10 Downing Street. They discussed efforts to combat terrorism and its financing, and cooperation in the areas of the economy, trade, investment, health and sport. They also signed a letter of intent for collaboration in combating terrorism between the governments of the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom.
HH The Amir’s visit to the UK confirmed the long history of cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries.
