Under the patronage and in the presence of HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) opened under the theme “Tomorrow’s Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation.”
HE the Prime Minister said: “We were pleased to host the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the AIIB in Doha. We look forward to strengthening cooperation with our partners to support sustainable infrastructure projects and expand investment opportunities in this sector.”
The meeting brought together governors, senior officials, and partners from around the world.
In his opening remarks, HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance and Chair of the AIIB’s Board of Governors for 2026, reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and highlighted the Bank’s role in advancing sustainable infrastructure and connectivity among member countries.
He added that Qatar’s hosting of the meeting reflects its commitment to international partnerships and greater cooperation among countries and financial and development institutions, supporting sustainable development and infrastructure investment that drives growth and shared prosperity.
He also highlighted Qatar’s resilience amid regional challenges and its longstanding role as a mediator and advocate for de-escalation and dialogue.
Turning to the Bank’s achievements, he noted that it approved $10.6 billion in financing last year across 57 projects, with 71% directed toward climate-related outcomes, exceeding its target. He also pointed to the Bank’s updated strategy, including doubling annual financing to $17 billion by 2030 and mobilising more private capital.
The 11th Annual Meeting of the AIIB’s Board of Governors explores how multilateral institutions, governments, and the private sector can meet growing infrastructure needs by mobilising private capital, strengthening cooperation, and advancing sustainable infrastructure projects.
