Minister of Education and Higher Education 

Biography

His Excellency Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi was appointed Minister of Education and Higher Education in June 2013.

Career

From 1986 to 2008, His Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education worked at Qatar University. He worked as assistant professor at the Electrical Engineering Department until he became Dean of the College of Engineering in 2000, and Vice President for Institutional Development in 2006.

His Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education also became Director of Qatar College of Technology between 2001 and 2004.

From 2008 to 2013, His Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education worked as Deputy CEO for Corporate Development at the Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company.

In June 2013, His Excellency was appointed as the Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council.

His Excellency is also the President of Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science.

Education

His Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education has a BSc in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University, a MSC in Power Engineering from Clarkson University, and a PhD in Power Engineering and Control Systems from Clarkson University in the US.

Responsibilities

His Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education has overall responsibility for all Ministry of Education and Higher Education affairs, including:

  • General public and private schools policies and supervision
  • General higher education institutions policies and supervision
