Biography
His Excellency Mr Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali was appointed Minister of Sports and Youth in October 2021.
Career
His Excellency the Minister of Sports and Youth has held several positions related to sport, youth, business and culture.
His Excellency was appointed Vice Chairman of State Audit Bureau from 1998 to 2006. In 2006, he became Chairman of State Audit Bureau – Qatar (ABQ). In 2007, His Excellency was appointed to the Qatar National Committee for Integrity and Transparency (QNCIT) in his capacity as Chairman of ABQ. In 2008, in addition to his duties as Chairman of ABQ, His Excellency was appointed the Head of the State National Day Celebrations Organizing Committee.
In 2011, His Excellency the Minister of Sports and Youth was appointed an Adviser in the office of the Heir Apparent, and the General Manager of the Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Bin Thani Social Welfare Foundation, which is a private foundation for public benefit. Since 2013, His Excellency has served as Chairman of Barwa Real Estate Company and Vice President of Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company.
His Excellency was originally appointed Minister of Youth and Sports in June 2013, and Minister of Culture and Sports in February 2016.
Education
His Excellency the Minister of Sports and Youth holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Engineering from the University of the Pacific in the US.
Responsibilities
His Excellency the Minister of Sports and Youth has overall responsibility for all Ministry of Sports and Youth issues, including:
- Regulating licenses for the forming of sports and youth centres
- Increasing awareness of sports and youth activities
- Liaising with relevant parties to support sports and youth in accordance with the 2030 Qatar National Vision
