Prime Minister chairs meeting of the Steering Committee for Smart Government and Digital Excellence

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the meeting of the Steering Committee for Smart Government and Digital Excellence.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed a number of projects related to digital government and efforts to strengthen integration among ministries, government agencies and public institutions. These projects aim to support national digital-transformation targets, streamline services and transactions for individuals and businesses across all sectors and enable sound decision-making.

HE the Prime Minister had issued Decision No. (3) of 2025 last March, establishing the Steering Committee for Smart Government and Digital Excellence. This initiative supports Qatar’s efforts to build a world-class digital government system with efficient quality services.

The committee’s mandate includes overseeing the implementation of Qatar Digital Government strategy, coordinating efforts among ministries, government entities and public and non-governmental institutions on programs and projects related to digital government, and ensuring seamless integration among these initiatives.

The committee is responsible for approving implementation plans related to the government digital strategy, endorsing associated digital initiatives, projects and programs, and issuing decisions and policies that ensure optimal execution and promote leadership in digital government, while strengthening its contributions to economic and social development.

The committee convenes quarterly, or as required, and its decisions are made by majority vote of attending members. It may form subcommittees or specialised task forces and invite experts and relevant stakeholders from various entities to participate in its discussions without voting rights.

All government and non-government entities are required to provide the committee with requested information and data and to fully implement its decisions, policies, directives and instructions within their respective mandates. The committee submits an annual report to the Cabinet — or as needed — outlining its outcomes and recommendations.

The establishment of the Steering Committee for Smart Government and Digital Excellence represents a pivotal step in advancing government operations in Qatar, reinforcing a culture of innovation and institutional integration. It will contribute to enhancing the quality of government services and support the achievement of national priorities for sustainable development, in line with the Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.
