Prime Minister opens Global Security Forum 2026

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the eighth edition of the Global Security Forum 2026 today under the theme “The Future of Alliances”, with participation from senior leaders representing over 100 nations.

Addressing the assembly, HE the Prime Minister said: “Amid regional and global tensions, we need stronger international cooperation, diplomacy and policies to address challenges and reduce escalation. We welcome participants to Doha’s 8th Global Security Forum and seek constructive joint outcomes for regional and global stability.”

Convening at a critical juncture for international security, the three-day forum provides an opportunity for senior decision-makers to exchange views, assess emerging security challenges, and explore practical ways to strengthen international cooperation.

The forum also examines the pressures facing international institutions, the growing influence of rising powers and non-state actors, and the future of multilateral cooperation and collective security, highlighting the central role of diplomacy, dialogue, and mediation in strengthening regional and global security.

The opening ceremony was attended by HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs; HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya); and a number of ministers and officials.

Addressing the forum, HE the Minister of Interior said: “Domestically, despite escalating tensions in the region, protecting people came first and foremost among our priorities. Our security and military services worked to protect lives and property, secure vital facilities, and keep services running for citizens and residents.”

HE added: “This readiness was the result of years of training and capacity building across state institutions, and the development of joint work and emergency and crisis response plans.”

HE continued: “In the State of Qatar, we reaffirm our commitment to dialogue, mediation, and the peaceful settlement of disputes, out of our conviction that defending sovereignty, maintaining deterrence, and working for peace are interlinked responsibilities. Adherence to international law and respect for the rights of states are essential foundations for stability in the region and the world.”

Hosted by the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies in cooperation with The Soufan Center, the forum brings together leading security experts and policymakers to discuss the future of existing alliances and the opportunities for new partnerships.

Through hosting the forum, Qatar reaffirms its steadfast commitment to fostering diplomatic dialogue, mediation, and international cooperation to enhance peace and stability worldwide.
