Doha Investment launched to accelerate national economic growth
$38.5 billion in new infrastructure projects
$22.5 billion in expected real estate and hospitality investment
HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, opened the Qatar Economic Forum: UNGA Special Edition 2026 in New York.
In his opening remarks, HE the Prime Minister said economic resilience is not built during crises, but well before them through preparedness, strong institutions, advanced infrastructure and enduring partnerships.
He added: “The crisis tested these foundations. Yet, our financial system continued to operate. Our businesses continued their work. This reflects years of preparation under the leadership and vision of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar.”
HE the Prime Minister highlighted the strength of Qatar’s economy, noting that the North Field expansion will reinforce Qatar’s position as a reliable energy supplier while supporting economic diversification.
He noted: “Over three decades, Qatar has built world class infrastructure, institutions, and companies. Our task now is to unlock the full value of these foundations and support the next phase of Qatar’s economic development.”
HE the Prime Minister announced the launch of Doha Investment, a dedicated platform to manage and grow Qatar Investment Authority’s domestic portfolio and accelerate long-term value creation with the Qatari economy.
He added: “Through this platform, we aim to expand the role of the private sector in driving Qatar’s economic growth. It will support our strongest companies, help emerging businesses grow, deepen capital markets, and attract international capital and expertise to contribute to this effort.”
He noted that Doha Investment will strengthen governance and develop talent, helping businesses become more competitive and better equipped to expand. Its success will be measured by its contribution to a more competitive, resilient, and diversified Qatari economy with the private sector playing a greater role in it.
HE the Prime Minister announced that Qatar plans to launch nearly $38.5 billion in new infrastructure projects over the next five years, including public-private partnerships. Alongside this, real estate and hospitality projects are expected to attract $22.5 billion in private investment, including $8.5 billion in Simaisma. Together, these represent more than $60 billion in projects and investment opportunities over five years.
Concluding his remarks, HE the Prime Minister said: “Qatar will remain a committed partner in mediation, a reliable energy supplier, and a long-term partner for investment.”
