Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs participates in Davos 2025
His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the 55th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025, held from 20-24 January in Davos, under the theme “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age.”
During the sessions, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that Qatar’s foreign policy is based on mediation and building bridges between all parties, adding that “we see that the only way forward is a diplomatic solution [to ending wars and disorder in our region.]” As we start 2025, HE added, we hope that this year will be the beginning of realising security and stability in the region, while overcoming the challenges that have exhausted our people.
Speaking about the Gaza ceasefire and the hostage and prisoner exchange, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of dialogue and open communication in addressing crises and conflicts more broadly.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs added: “What has happened throughout the last 15 months showed us that everything can be resolved through negotiations. We have seen the ceasefire in place, a first step towards stability. But the parties in the conflict need to adhere to what they agreed upon in the agreement. As a guarantor and as mediators in this agreement, we have to ensure that every step is implemented as agreed. But it all depends on whether [the parties] are embarking on this in good faith.”
From there, HE Sheikh Mohammed spoke about positive transformations in the Middle East, noting that there are great opportunities to build stability, starting from Lebanon, which witnessed the election of a new president, to Syria, which started a new phase after years of conflict.
Speaking about the situation in Syria, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said there is “still a long way to go towards stability. But the Syrian people are very productive, very active, very innovative. They became vital elements in different economies. We all hope that this will be a new chapter for Syria where Syria is a stable, productive country and a core of stability in the entire region.”
Headed by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, a high-level delegation representing the State of Qatar is taking part in the WEF Annual Meeting 2025. The delegation includes HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance, HE Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, HE Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, HE Dr Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and HE Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of Qatar Central Bank, in addition to other senior officials.
