HH the Amir casts vote in draft constitutional amendments referendum
HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir, and HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, cast their vote in the general referendum on draft constitutional amendments to the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar this morning at Msheireb Downtown Doha.
The General Referendum Committee has made the necessary arrangements for eligible citizens to vote through 10 paper ballot committees or 18 electronic voting committees. In addition, citizens inside or outside of Qatar could cast their vote on the Metrash2 mobile app.
As polls opened this morning, eligible voters gathered in anticipation, demonstrating their strong commitment to the success of this historic national event. Today’s turnout further reflects the civic responsibility felt by Qataris, further strengthening their national unity and commitment to progress.
Voting ran from 07:00 am to 07:00 pm, after which tallying commenced. The General Referendum Committee is expected to announce results within 24 hours from polls’ closing time.
The Cabinet emphasised the importance of active public participation in the referendum, underscoring the unique bond between the people and their leader, built on core values and established national principles.
To facilitate wider citizen participation, the Cabinet issued a decision permitting Qatari employees’ early dismissal from 11:00 am today.
Yesterday, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs visited the 15th General Referendum Committee Centre in Barahat Msheireb to inspect final preparations ahead of the voting process.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Interior, Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and Chairman of the General Referendum Committee.
In a post on his X account, HE wrote: “At the invitation of His Highness the Amir of Qatar, I visited polling centres today with colleagues overseeing referendum preparations. Tomorrow, we participate together in this important event for our beloved country, building our future and taking this responsibility as one.”
Moreover, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs urged all citizens aged 18 and above to participate in the referendum as part of their national duty.
