Minister of Environment and Climate Change

Biography

His Excellency Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie was appointed Minister of Environment and Climate Change on 8 January 2024.

Career

Between October 2021 and January 2024, His Excellency Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie held the position of Minister of Municipality. He previously served as the Minister of Environment and Climate Change between November 2018 and October 2021.

In addition to his duties, His Excellency held the position of Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs from May to October 2021.

His Excellency has been serving as Managing Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee at Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) since March 2011, where he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in January 2017.

His Excellency was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Barwa, Qatar’s leading real estate development and investment holding group from April 2011 until May 2014.

Prior to that, His Excellency was the Chief Executive Officer of Smeet, a Qatari Diar affiliate, serving the company from its inception in 2008 until March 2011.

His Excellency the Minister of Municipality has held various leadership and senior project management roles from 1996 to 2008 with the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), where he managed huge infrastructure projects.

Education

His Excellency attained his PhD in Administration in 2021, his master’s degree in Business Administration in 2006, and his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Qatar University in 1996.

Responsibilities

As Minister of Environment and Climate Change, His Excellency oversees all issues concerning the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, including:

– Leading environmental and climate change policies in the State of Qatar.

– Addressing issues of environmental concern and adopting sustainable, climate-friendly practices across all sectors.

– Implementing the National Climate Change Action Plan through initiatives aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change.
