His Highness the Amir Inaugurates Expo 2023 Doha

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, inaugurated the international horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, under the theme “Green Desert, Better Environment,” in Al Bidda Park. The ceremony was also attended by a number of heads of states and governments and other senior officials representing sisterly nations.

His Highness the Amir was accompanied by several ministers and senior officials, led by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In his address during the ceremony, His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that Doha’s hosting of the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition aligns with “Qatar’s commitments to sustainable development, nationally and internationally.” His Excellency the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also added that Qatar’s various initiatives, carried out under the directives of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, “aim to strike a balance between our development needs and the protection of our natural resources on land, sea and air.”

The ceremony also saw the attendance of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, HE Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, HE Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of Djibouti, HE Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, HE Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, HE Dr Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed, Prime Minister of the Republic of Yemen, and HE Dr Edouard Ngirente, Prime Minister of the Republic of Rwanda, in addition to several other distinguished guests and figures.

Starting October 3, Expo 2023 Doha also opened its doors to the general public, offering a variety of exhibitions and activities, whose key topics focus on modern agriculture, technology and innovation, environmental awareness and sustainability.

Expo 2023 Doha is expected to attract more than 3 million visitors from around the world during its six-month duration, which ends on March 28, 2024. It will provide participants and attendees the opportunity to explore the wonderful, landscaped Al Bidda Park and learn about different cultures from all over the world.

Expo 2023 Doha meets the objectives set in the Qatar National Vision 2030, of which sustainable environmental development is a cornerstone. Expo 2023 Doha also stands as a witness to the State of Qatar’s commitment to promoting global cooperation, innovation and sustainable agricultural development.
