His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs inaugurates the Doha International Book Fair

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the 33rd edition of the Doha International Book Fair. Held under the slogan ‘Knowledge Builds Civilizations,’ the event will run until the May 18th at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.

The opening was attended by HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Crown Prince of the Sultanate of Oman and Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, a number of ministers, heads of diplomatic missions, senior officials and guests.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs toured the exhibition’s pavilions, where he viewed displays from Qatari, Arab and international publishing houses showcasing their latest publications, books and manuscripts. HE also visited exhibits from government entities, Arab and international cultural organisations and embassies.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani attended the ‘Doha for Children’ activities, a 2,400 sqm tent activation offering workshops, sessions, cultural programs and plays for children, with displays from an array of children’s publishers.

Oman, this edition’s guest of honour, participated with a special pavilion and a diverse cultural program highlighting Omani heritage, intellectual and literary productions and a range of folk and artistic performances.
This year’s edition boasts the largest international participation, attracting more than 500 publishing houses from 42 countries. Moreover, it features more than 180,000 new topics representing various fields and participation from a range of embassies.
