Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs inaugurates Medical Care and Research Center

1 July 2024

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Medical Care and Research Center (MCRC) today.

The facility aims to advance treatment practices through clinical and precision medicine.
Located at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, the new five-story facility marks a significant leap forward in Qatar’s healthcare, innovation and medical research landscape, in line with the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030.

The MCRC houses a Clinical Trials Unit, dedicated to designing, conducting and managing studies that evaluate the safety and efficacy of medical strategies, treatments and devices. Complementing this is a Center for Precision Medicine and Genomics, which will provide tailored medical treatments and conduct research using cutting-edge innovations. The unit also features an outpatient department specialising in prosthetics.

To support its primary functions, the 250-bed facility will offer a range of services, including a pharmacy, a dedicated ambulance route for efficient patient transport, an inpatient physiotherapy gym, segregated waiting areas and multipurpose rooms.

Moreover, the MCRC will deliver high-quality pediatric care through an Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Unit, Daycare Unit and a dedicated ward.

The facility also features an Acute Geriatrics Unit, which aims to address the rise of acute illnesses among the elderly. A Palliative Care Unit will provide a welcoming environment for patients and their families.

In addition, the MCRC features a mix of private and shared patient rooms, alongside medical isolation units and a physiotherapy clinic.

To enhance accessibility and integrated care, an internal walkway links the MCRC to three facilities: the Women’s Wellness and Research Center, Ambulatory Care Center and the Qatar Rehabilitation Institute. This interconnected design ensures seamless access to a wide range of specialised, diagnostic and laboratory services.

Guided by its national vision 2030, the State of Qatar has made great strides in developing a world-class public health system, making significant investments and achievements in this sector.
