HE the Prime Minister Opens the 2023 Geneva International Motor Show

5 October 2023

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, opened the 2023 Geneva International Motor Show hosted by Qatar between October 5 to 14. Held for the first time outside of Geneva, Switzerland, the event sheds light on the latest developments in the automotive industry across the world.

The opening ceremony saw His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs touring the show, accompanied by several ministers and senior state officials, representatives of the show organisers, as well as major international automotive companies.

Covering an area of more than 10,000 square metres at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, the show is expected to welcome more than 200,000 visitors from all over the world. The doors will be open to the public every day, starting Saturday, October 7th.

Running in parallel with Formula 1 Qatar Airways Grand Prix 2023 at the Lusail International Circuit, the 2023 Geneva International Motor Show will see the unveiling of 10 leading brands from around the world, in addition to 20 leading brands from across the region.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a number of exceptional experiences, including the Classics Gallery, which showcases a wide variety of rare cars of historical value that attract car enthusiasts and collectors from around the world. The gallery also exhibits rare cars whose ownership can be traced back to Qataris.

Last week, Doha welcomed two electric cars that came all the way from Geneva by land ahead of the kickoff of the Geneva International Motor Show. Covering an impressive distance of over 8,000 km across 12 countries, the journey represented a link between the two cities hosting the show and shed light on the efficiency and technology of electric cars.

Holding the 2023 Geneva International Motor Show reflects Qatar’s well-established position as a host of major events, with the country successfully organising the best edition in the history of the World Cup last year. Expo 2023 Doha has also kicked off this week, marking the first-ever international horticultural exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa, thanks to the country’s modern facilities, world-class infrastructure, advanced public transportation network, and strategic location.
